I present you my 5 speed, featuring t he five most awkwardly spaced gears ever. 1st till 3th are normal (a tad short) 4th is perfectly fine, and 5th is so tall it doesn’t allow the car to reach it’s top speed there, nor does it accelerate under full throttle when doing 100kph (combination of low torque and tall gear).

Both of my cars are six speeds. And if my current rental Corolla is a 2016, it probably has a 4 speed auto. It does certainly feel like a dumb transmission but it might also just be a CVT. So no 5 speeds for me!

Not necessarily. My DD (which is a 6-speed) is grey, which broke the cycle. Black Chasers are fairly common, but the prices on them are going to be so high once they’re importable that it’s probably just going to come down to the best deal I can find, regardless of color.

I can’t recall ever seeing one in person, but I have always appreciated their quirkiness.

Another quirky 5-speed (or 6-speed, depending on the year/trim) that I adore is the Panoz Esperante. This one resides near me, and is definitely hard to miss.

Gotcha! There are only a few used cars that the color would be a deal-breaker. Orange, yellow, green or Grabber blue on a Mustang or blue on an RS4. Everything else I just care about condition haha

I forgot the Corolla used a 4 speed for about 10 too many years! I wonder if they are using a CVT that has programmed “gears”. I think Nissan is doing that? Either way, worst of both worlds lol.

I’ve only owned 5 speeds but one day I’ll have a 6! Unless I get a C7 and skip 6 all together

I mean this Corolla probably still is faster than my Miata though lol. It doesnt quite feel lawnmowery, just more like that 20 year old autotragic Honda/Toyota. At least the bluetooth works properly in this thing. Damn Fiesta and Focus I had weeks prior were MUCH better cars but I had to deal with FM radio while driving due to MYFORDSHIT that would not connect bluetooth audio for shit.

I’ve never had an issue with the Ford system. I had a rental 4runner once and it refused to play nice with my bluetooth. Might have been a phone issue though.

As crappy as they are, I kinda like the Yaris as a rental. Only because I’m either at full throttle or full brake and never exceed the speed limit haha

It was moreso it was just super confusing/buggy so I just gave up on it. The focus system was definitely borked, it wouldnt allow phones to be deleted so I couldnt add mine. The fiesta one connected but would not play anything without strange apps that didnt seem to work anyways. In other cars, its always just connect, start playing from my phone, and it works forever there on out. Ford is the only convoluted system from this decade that I have had trouble with lol.

That’s strange. I’ve mostly driven Mustangs and one edge. I think it wanted me to download an app but I never did. But yeah, they should offer the basic, play shit from my phone option. The integrated stuff might be nice, but a pita for a rental car.

The actual myfordtouch version is actually a little better, I have used that successfully in the past, albeit with issues. This one was the button based, non touch version, which seems to lack proper bluetooth support. The problem is just comparing it to the one in the Corolla which works flawlessly and has always been that way. Sure it looks like graphics from 1995 but at least it functions well.

I imagine the Mustang and Edge have the better systems which mostly work. I had a ‘14 Fiesta in 2014 as a rental and drove it 2000 miles in California, that one worked perfectly fine. For some reason this 2017 model had undone all of that good lol.
